Mountains and Oceans

Read a cool thought in Donald Miller's book Through Painted Deserts. He says about city life:

When you build a city near no mountains and no ocean, you get materialism and traditional religion. People have too much time and lack inspiration.

I remember our vacation back in August. I miss seeing the mist and fog hovering around the peak of Mt. Rainier and the cliffs along the coast that fell into the ocean. It seems like while we were there I thought clearer and dreamed bigger. I don't know if it was just because it was vacation or not. I do know that in the midst of Ohio's corn and bean fields, I don't feel as inspired as I did on the coast of Oregon, or on the rim of Crater Lake (pictured above). Materialism is much more of a struggle around here. I used to think that the hippie, naturalist types of Seattle and Portland were weird. After being out there a few days I envied their peacefulness and sense of freedom (I could do without the odors). Maybe I would be a different person out there. Unfortunately, we will won't be finding out any time soon.

He's Nice...

I can't believe we are 11 weeks away. We are getting ready. Painting the nursery begins tonight....our first official step towards bringing the baby to his new home.

Church stuff is going great. Had a great Christmas and the Buckeyes won. Life is good.
